Summary:

The Human Resources Director is responsible for the overall effective and efficient administration of the company’s benefits, recruiting, employee relations/employment law, performance management, training, and wellness programs.  In addition, this position oversees the company’s uniform selection and distribution process.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide exceptional guest service to all employees and guests.
  • Maintain a professional work environment with management and staff.
  • Provide leadership, management, and direction to human resources staff.
  • Provide coaching and counseling to management and employees.
  • Facilitate resolution of employee relations issues and employee/supervisor conflict.
  • Advise management on the interpretation of employment policies and practices, ensure consistent application of policies, and recommend policy changes as appropriate.
  • Lead employee relations investigations, including employment law violation complaints.
  • Administer the company’s benefit programs, to include all health-related (medical, dental, vision, and other supplemental plans) and financial (401k) programs. Recommend changes to the plans as appropriate
  • Keep current on all relevant legislation to ensure the company’s policies, practices, and benefits maintain compliance with all applicable laws.  Advises management on needed actions to adhere to new requirements.
  • Consults with legal counsel as appropriate, or as directed by the GM, on personnel matters.
  • Oversee the operation of the company’s wellness programs and related fitness facilities and staff.
  • Oversee the company’s uniform distribution process.
  • Coordinates and administer the company’s performance management process.
  • Responsible for maintenance of all employee data, including HRIS, personnel files, and other employment-related documents.  
  • Ensures the company maintains compliance with all relevant employee documentation laws and best practices.
  • Create and administer the company’s training programs, to include new hire orientation, guest service training, alcohol-related training, responsible gaming training, and management training.
  • Handle and coordinate unemployment hearings and appeals.
  • Measure, analyze, and reports all appropriate HR-related metrics, including attrition/retention, unemployment, and workers compensation.
  • Oversees FMLA/other leave processes and approvals to ensure legal and consistent application and documentation.
  • Oversees ADA request process and work with department director on reasonable accommodations.
  • Oversees the disciplinary process and decisions, ensuring consistent application of the company’s progressive disciplinary process.
  • Manage expenses based on budgeted guidelines and business volumes to include payroll and staffing levels.
  • Must maintain a reasonable accessibility by phone for business purposes.
  • Assure an environment which emphasizes cooperation, communication, and teamwork with all departments.
  • Serve as periodic Manager on Duty (MOD), responsible for the direct supervision of all Casino operations and conduct of Casino employees while on duty.
  • Job duties, tasks, work hours, work requirements, and other duties as assigned may be added or changed at any time.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Human Resources, Organization Development or related field required.
  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR/SHRM-CP) preferred.
  • Must be able to hold and maintain a valid license from the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission.
  • Must complete all company-required training within designated time frames.
  • Must obtain direct deposit within one week of start date.
